Creativity: How does being positive and enthusiastic help with creativity?

You’re probably starting to wonder, “how is being positive and enthusiastic going to help me be creative?” My son asked me this exact question once. I told him that if you are not positive and enthusiastic about what you’re doing with your life, you will have a hard time imagining that you can be creative in any meaningful way.

There are hundreds if not thousands of books on the power of positive attitude and positive thinking, and discussions on this subject have been going on for decades. I have read many of these books, and I know that they’ve had a profound effect not only on me, but also on many others who delved into them.

Setbacks of any kind could push us into a negative cycle, keep feeding itself and prevent us from seeing a brighter aspects of our life. Thinking positive and being enthusiastic in whatever little we do, will surely put us on the right path of creativity.

Creativity: Our Thoughts

I always enjoyed this one and is part  of my book:

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.

Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviors.

Keep your behaviors positive because your behaviors become your habits.

Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.

Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.

Creativity Unleashed:Significant Work

One of my all-time favorite books is “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl. Frankl was a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp. He kept his body and hopes alive by thinking about seeing his wife again and by dreaming of lecturing after the war about the psychological lessons that could be learned from this experience. He writes about a number of these lessons in his book. “The greatest task for any person is to find meaning in his or her life,” he says at one point and goes on to tell us of three ways of finding meaning: in work (doing something significant), in love (caring for another person) and in courage during difficult times. Part of his point can be restated in this way: significant work can make our lives meaningful. And creative geniuses, above all else, are the people who find meaning in their lives by dedicating themselves to work that is significant to them.

Creativity: Life challenges

There may be time  when life’s challenges are hard to overcome because of the burdens have grown very heavy and seem to be so unfair. Such times are unavoidable, and it’s best to learn and accept this fact early on. It’s important to know that we cannot expect things to be perfect and that life always brings both the good and the bad. Once we accept this truth, it is much easier to feel at peace.

Everyone goes through it, rich or poor, advantage or disadvantage. It is just part of our life and we need to deal with it one way or the other and we have to choose how do we deal with it. The help is always available and we need to reach out and get it.

Creativity: A beautiful quote from Steve Job’s speech

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It’s life’s change agent; it clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now, the new is you. But someday, not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it’s quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”

Creativity: Get your support

We need support of friends when our work isn’t going so well and we feel frustrated and disappointed at times. On those sad days, when it is time to stop, call a friend or go to the mall for a coffee or a drink, go to movies, cook something simple but new. Making conscious effort to come out of dumps by doing something you love and talking things over with people close to you is always very effective. Try it out, it may work for you.
